Nuestra Señora del Roble, Monterrey, Nuevo León, Mexico
In 1592, Franciscan
missionary Fray Andrés de León set a statuette in a tree. A few years
later, a girl herding goats found it glowing and fragrant, after hearing
her name called from the tree. Prelates tried to move the image to the
church, but the third time it returned to the oak it was allowed to stay.
The present Basilica is the fourth church on the site, completed June 26,
1910. The statue was crowned May 31, 1964. The patron saint of Monterrey, Our Lady of the Oak is honored
on December 18, former Feast of the Expectation. (Picture from www.arquidiocesismty.org.)
