September 13

Nuestra Señora del Milagro, Salta, Salta, Argentina

On September 13, 1692, a terrible earthquake shook the city of Salta. In the main church, a statue of the Immaculate Virgin fell from a niche to the floor undamaged, in a position that seemed to convey blessing to the city. The people decided to take the image in procession, along with the statue of Christ from the same church. Immediately the temblors ceased, and the city returned to life. Shortly thereafter the Council resolved to name the Virgin of the Miracle Salta's patron and to commemorate the date annually. The fiesta draws a big crowd from the whole province.
