Gua Maria Sumber Kahuripan, Cibadak, Sukabumi, West Java, Indonesia
The Mary Grotto of the Living Spring at St. Francis Catholic Church, begun in 2000, completed in 2003, and blessed on May 30, 2004, is located in the densely populated, largely Islamic province of West Java, where Catholics comprise less than one percent of the population. At special masses in May and October, pilgrims write down prayer requests on slips of paper which are burned in front of the altar. A reputation for answered prayers attracts numerous worshipers to the Grotto with its statue of Our Lady of Lourdes.
