Third Sunday in JulyRegina Pacis, Boves, Cuneo, Piedmont, ItalyIn 1913, at the age of 30, Agostino Pellegrino became parish priest of the Fontanelle district in the northwestern Italian town of Boves. After World War I, he decided to build a great shrine to the Queen of Peace, a title which Pope Benedict XV had just added to the Litany of Loreto in 1917. Don Pellegrino raised money and acquired land not far from his church, but in 1923 the nearly-completed building collapsed. In 1924, construction began anew, and the neobaroque Regina Pacis Sanctuary was dedicated in 1928. On July 16, 1939, Cardinal Maurilio Fossati, Archbishop of Turin, solemnly crowned the statue of the Queen of Peace. Fontanelle celebrates its feast day in honor of Regina Pacis on the third Sunday in July. Picture and information from Giovanni Gallotti, "La Regina Pacis di Fontanelle," Mater Misericordiae No. 3/2007, www.santuariosavona.eu/files/_bollettini/2007_3.pdf Since this is the Sunday nearest the feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel on July 16, many communities celebrate the Madonna del Carmine or related devotions on this day.
