October 30Our Lady of Fatima, Bison, Oklahoma, USADuring the Cold War, devotion to Our Lady of Fatima spread among U.S. Catholics, based on reports that during her 1917 apparition in Portugal she had predicted the Communist takeover of Russia and promised its downfall if her messages were heeded. In 1951, the Bishop of Oklahoma City-Tulsa dedicated a grotto to Our Lady of Fatima outside St. Joseph Church in the unincorporated community of Bison, 78 miles north of Oklahoma City. In 1992, an electrical storm caused a fire that burned the grotto, leaving only the blackened stones and statues. On October 30, 1994, Archbishop Eusebius J. Beltran of Oklahoma City consecrated the rebuilt Archdiocesan Shrine of Our Lady of Fatima in Bison. Source: Knights of Columbus, council1044.org/OurLadyofFatima.aspx Also commemorated this date:
