October 17

Marie Reine des Coeurs, Montreal, Quebec, Canada

St. Louis de Montfort of France devised the title "Mary Queen of Hearts" in 1705, when he hung a large metal heart on the neck of a statue of the Virgin and invited the faithful to write their names on pieces of paper and place them in Mary's heart. Cardinal Léger presided at the groundbreaking of the Monfort Marian Center in Montreal October 17, 1959 and blessed the Center at its inauguration September 10, 1961. It hosts many spiritual activities throughout the year. The statue in the sanctuary depicts St. Louis de Montfort giving his heart to Mary and Jesus. The Confraternity of the Queen of All Hearts celebrates its feast day with that of the Annunciation, March 25.
